Important Update Regarding Spectators

Dear Students/Parents,

With the easing of restrictions approaching, we wanted to reach out and inform you about one change we have introduced through the restrictions that will be remaining in place once they are lifted.

We have decided to keep our classes spectator free. This means that parents will not be able to sit in on their children’s class. We know that for many of you this will be a disappointing update, as we know how much you enjoy watching your children take part in sports and activities.

However, the benefits of not having spectators in the halls has been made clear to us through this last period. Students remain more focused and less distracted throughout the lesson. Removing the ‘safety blanket’ of running over to Mum/Dad has seen many of our more reserved students build in confidence and independance. The classes have also benefited from the additional space it provides and in particular the reduced noise from conversations.

Beyond the children’s focus, there is a growing concern for safeguarding in children’s sport. Many activities such as dance classes, scouts/guide groups and gymnastics have had similar policies in place for a long time.

We will however, be holding a ‘viewing week’ once every 2 months. Where parents will be invited to come to class and see their children’s progress. We will give plenty of notice for when these classes take place and invite you all in to remove your shoes and join us on the tatami’s for a demonstration of all they have learnt.

All our Instructors are DBS checked, carry Public Liability Insurance, and we always have a registered First Aider on hand. Our club carries the Safeguarding in Martial Arts accreditation, that recognises our hard work and processes in maintaining a safe environment for children to train.

This is something we were considering long before Covid, and the restrictions have allowed us to trial run it and see the positive results we had always suspected. We are aware that this will be an adjustment for some of you, but must insist that you respect the new rule. The only spectators permitted will be parents bringing their child along for a free trial session.

If you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards
